Mary’s Bar
Mary’s Bar
Mary’s Bar is located in the basement in the East Wing (left side as you look at it from the front steps) of the Fergusson building. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are very reasonable (£2.70 is the cheapest pint or £1.00 for a pint of soft drink). Students of all year groups and Colleges come to use Mary’s Bar on a regular basis – it’s a real social hub for students. Whether it’s a quiet pint you’re after, or whether you’re stopping off for a quick Reef on a Bar Crawl, Mary’s Bar provides the goods.
We regularly showing major sporting events in the bar, ranging from the Six Nations, to the world cup, to athletics. The bar will often open during the day to allow students to watch sports. Otherwise, the bar is open 7 days a week during Term Time: 7pm-11pm Weeknights, Friday/Saturday 7pm-12am.
Although it gets some stick for being one of the smallest in the university, it is a great place to start an evening or just come down for a quiet pint and a chat. As a social space, it is one of the best in College and it is a great place to meet people from all years and people who you aren’t living on a corridor with. The bar hosts many events throughout the year, of which the live lounges & pub quizzes are not to be missed. However, the vibrant, characteristic atmosphere of the bar really shows itself when students past & present descend on it after a formal or ball to drink and party the evening away.
Students work the bar so we will be on the lookout for new members of staff in the first few weeks. Working the bar is great fun, a good way to make some extra cash and another great way to meet new people. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Bar Steward, Alex Maidens ([email protected])
